I'm Amina, a local artist living and working in Gainsborough with my husband, Darrell, my two step-daughters, Mackenzie and Maddison, and our dog, Murphy. I'm originally from Liverpool and studied fashion and textiles at Manchester University before completing my PGCE in Liverpool. I became a qualified Art teacher and was the Head of Art in preparatory schools in Surrey and Nottinghamshire. With 24 years of teaching under my belt I now work full-time as an artist. I hold exhibitions in galleries and run workshops all from my Gainsborough-based studio. I also run holiday workshop for kids which are great fun. I work with schools on projects and go in to hold one day workshops which can be linked to the curriculum. The Women's Institute has also been added to my clientele, running a still life event to 90 women! I have an up coming exhibition at The Hub, Retford, Nottinghamshire which is quite a retrospective of my life's work. It runs from 17th May - 22nd June 2019.
I work in acrylic paints and mixed media, and am influenced by people, nature, my environment, my travels, and a variety of other things. However, I do love to paint nature, and really enjoy creating works involving flowers, butterflies, and landscapes. The style of my work includes vibrant colours, and I paint both realistically and abstractly. I love the work of Georgia O'Keeffe, Gustav Klimt, and Michael Kaws. Over the years, I've recently been inspired to paint in an abstract style which reflects my love of colour, pattern and texture. I've painted many commissions and always work with the client to achieve what they want. I've also had numerous exhibitions in Nottinghamshire, Surrey, Lincolnshire, and Liverpool.
