Global Scouse Day 28th February
Happy Monday and Happy Scouse day... today is 'Global Scouse day'... more below.
I hope you survived the storms and your garden fences are intact. It's March tomorrow...hurrah!!! I can smell spring in the air plus it's pancake day.
First the news:-
Saturday's workshop was 'Discovering Watercolours & Mixed Media' . It was a beautiful sunny day. Using drawing gum, feathers, leaves, watercolour tubes & pan, food wrap, different watercolout papers we had a great time playing & exploring with the materials. There were some stunning outcomes and it was great fun.
Saturday 12th March
Beach Houses in Acrylics: 10 am - 3 pm. Paint a beautiful landscape of beach houses, sand, and sky/ sea on a canvas. There is still availability, please email or call to book your place.
We are in the process of totally revamping the garden so I apologise in advance for any noise & chaos in the garden. Darrell, the husband, is building a beast of a man cave, shed. ONce this is complete and the 2 old sheds have been dismantled, a patio is being laid so clients can sit outside in the summer to have lunch or cream teas.
We're hoping to have it completed by my annual open day & exhibition the last weekend in June.
I will post pictures on the blog as it happens.
Are you finding it difficult to find a gift for your mother/ grandmother/ important woman in your life, this year? Why not give them a voucher for a Watercolour & Cream Tea Experience at A.S.K studio & gallery? The voucher can be redeemed at a convenient date. The minimum purchase is for 2 people, the maximum is for 6... £25.00 for a 2-hour session.
That is the news for the week.
Global Scouse Day
...an annual celebration of the city of Liverpool which is held every 28th February.
Liverpool is my home town and is one beautiful city.
It has the Tate Gallery at the Albert Docks and The Walker Art Gallery, a stunning building housing one of the most renowned painting collections in the UK. The collection includes European Renaissance paintings, masterpieces by Rubens, Rembrandt, Turner & Stubbs, Pre- Raphaelite artworks by Rosseti & Millais, Impressionist works by Monet & Degas & contemporary works by Lowry, Hockney, Wylie & the winners of the John Moores Painting Prize. We also have The Lady `Lever Art Gallery & Sudley House.
Scouse is a type of stew made from chunks of meat, usually beef or lamb, potatoes, and onion.
It is associated with the port of Liverpool, which is why we are called scousers.
The word comes from lobscouse, a stew commonly eaten by sailors in Northern Europe in the past.
It sees bars, cafes & restaurants in Liverpool & around the world put scouse on the menu for the day.
I could go on and on about our football team, Liverpool F.C of course, the music scene... the Beatles, Gerry & the Pacemakers, Echo & the Bunnymen, O.M.D, the Christians, Flock of Seagulls, the River Mersey, the history, the architecture. But, I won't. I will leave it up to you to decide, research, and enjoy.
One more thing... the much-loved 'Peaky Blinders' is filmed in Liverpool, despite being set in Birmingham.
And, maybe one day pay the city with bags of character a visit.
Have a great week & a great March.
