My Influences:- Gustav Klimt
Happy Monday, it's sunny and warm what's not to love.
This week's blog is all about what & who influenced my artwork at an early age.
I've always had a great love of colour, pattern and texture which has been prominent in my work through the decades.
One of my major influences was the Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt.
Gustav Klimt - July 14, 1862 - February 6, 1918
He was one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Succession movement.
Klimt is noted for his paintings, murals, and sketches. His primary subject was the female body.
I received a book on Klimt as a birthday present early on in my education, that was it, I was hooked.
I loved the colours and patterns and the beautiful female figures he adorned.
The prominence of gold leaf definitely increased my love for his work... I think I was a magpie in a previous life.
A few years ago, I saw an exhibition of his work at Liverpool Tate Gallery and was overwhelmed by the beauty and impact his work has.
As a student at university, Klimt's work influenced a line of fashion wear I designed.
Attached are the design ideas for the colours etc for the fashion line.
I still have a great love for Klimt and always will.
